Gift Acceptance Policy
The following is the current policy for the Foundation's Gift Acceptance.
Introduction
The Case Management Foundation (Foundation / CMF) is a charitable organization created to support education, research and professional development for case management professionals. The Foundation also supports the educational and charitable activities of the Case Management Society of America (CMSA) and other associations and organizations involved in the field of case management. The Foundation encourages the solicitation and acceptance of gifts that will help the furtherance of its mission.
Donations will generally be accepted from individuals, partnerships, corporations, foundations, government agencies, or other entities. This policy has been designed to ensure that all gifts to, or for the use of, the Foundation are structured to provide maximum benefits for both the donor and the Foundation. The Foundation urges all prospective donors to seek the assistance of personal legal and financial advisors in matters relating to their gifts, including the resulting tax and estate planning consequences.
The following policies and guidelines govern acceptance of gifts made to the Foundation for the benefit of any of its operations, programs, or services.
Types of Acceptable Gifts
At this time, the Foundation accepts gifts of the following:
Cash — Cash gifts are acceptable in any form, including by check, money order, credit card, or online.
Marketable Securities — Marketable securities may be delivered physically with the transferor's endorsement or signed stock power (with appropriate signature guarantees) attached. All marketable securities will be sold promptly upon receipt. In some cases, marketable securities may be restricted; for example, by applicable securities laws or the terms of the proposed gifts. In such instances, the decision whether to accept the restricted securities shall be made by the Board of Directors in consultation with the Executive Director.
Other Types of Gifts — Other types of gifts must be reviewed prior to acceptance due to the special liabilities they may pose for the Foundation. Examples of gifts which will be subject to review include gifts of real property and gifts of personal property.
Restrictions on Gifts — The Foundation will not accept gifts that (a) would result in the Foundation losing its status as an organization exempt from tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, (b) are too difficult or too expensive to administer in relation to their value, (c) would result in any unacceptable consequences for the Foundation, or (d) are for purposes outside the Foundation's mission. Decisions on the restrictive nature of a gift, and its acceptance or refusal, shall be made by the Board of Directors in consultation with the Executive Director. Donors of $1,000 or more may designate the use of their donations to a particular purpose or project. Any gifts involving particular donor restrictions that may be costly or difficult to administer will be reviewed by the Board of Directors prior to acceptance.
Donor Relations
All donors will receive electronic acknowledgement of their donation (when valid email has been supplied.) Donors at the Sustaining Associate level (amounts at and over $1,000) will be recognized by name on the Foundation website, unless the donor indicates in writing that they wish to remain anonymous. All other information obtained by the Foundation about donors will be held in the strictest confidence. The Foundation will honor donor wishes in regard to publication or other forms of recognition.
Revisions to Gift Acceptance Policy
This policy has been reviewed by the Foundation Board of Directors, and will be periodically reviewed by an appropriate committee of the Board. Any recommended revisions and updates will be presented to the Board of Directors for approval. |
